On September 24, 2025, Carlo Proserpio, Ecodesign expert from the Department of Design at Politecnico di Milano, presented the CirCLER project at the seminar “LCA and Ecodesign in the New European Regulatory Framework”, organized in Manzano (UD) by the Innovation Ecodesign and Sustainability platform.
The event was an important opportunity for dialogue between institutions, companies, and research centers, with the goal of exploring the impact of the new European regulation Ecodesign for Sustainable Products (ESPR) on the wood-furniture sector. In addition to technical and regulatory presentations, the seminar featured contributions from FederlegnoArredo, CATAS, and the Cluster Legno Arredo Casa FVG, who presented methodological tools, regulatory updates, case studies, and best practices supporting sustainable design and responsible innovation.
In his talk, Carlo Proserpio illustrated the objectives and early results of the CirCLER project, which promotes the integration of circular economy principles into the furniture industry through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Ecodesign methodologies. The presentation highlighted how CirCLER supports companies in measuring and improving the environmental performance of products, fostering collaboration between research institutions, design schools, and industrial partners.
The seminar thus provided a broad and up-to-date overview of how the new regulatory framework can become a growth opportunity for the sector, stimulating processes of innovation and sustainability. CirCLER represents a concrete example of how design, life-cycle-based planning, and specialized training can translate European policies into tangible actions, guiding the wood-furniture industry towards a more circular, resilient, and responsible production model.
